Mark Montague hails from northern Ohio but has lived, trained and raced all over the USA. Throughout school he was a 4 sport athlete earning many athletic awards. Leaving school he joined the Army and started a long running career of 5K, 10Ks and half marathons placing high in many of these.
After the Army in college, Mark had a very serious motorcycle accident putting him in a wheelchair for months. After 1 year’s rehab he tried a Triathlon as a rehab goal and beat over half the entrants in his first race. He was hooked!
Over the next 15 years, many different states and 100 Triathlons later, including many half Ironmans and the Inaugural Ironman Wisconsin Triathlon, he started doing Off-road Triathlons and Xterras. Mark always placed well up in his age class including winning a few age groups at these.
During a few Odyssey Adventure Xterras, he was introduced to Adventure Racing by Don Mann. Mark volunteered at the “Beast of the East” and was hooked again. Over the last 7 years, Mark has competed in over 25 Adventure Races from Sprints to one and two day AR and some Expedition length races.
He has competed as a soloist, two-man team, three person co-ed and full four person co-ed. In 2005, as a soloist, he was the 2nd place soloist finisher in the 30 hr OAR Endorphin Fix. As Capt of Team Three’s Company he led them to first place in the HR Adventure TASC AR. Recently, he led Team Fantastic Four to First Place in the HR Adventure 18 hr Stage AR. He has competed in New Balance AR, OAR AR, Balance Bar Series, RaceDay Inc., Set-up Inc and other series races.
